Upcoming Trip Could Feature Familiar Faces in Ducks Lineup by Kyle Shohara
Sometime over the course of Anaheim’s upcoming five-game road trip, a few “old, familiar faces” could be returning to the lineup, according to head coach Randy Carlyle. Nothing is confirmed, of course, but that’s what he said yesterday after the team’s first practice coming out of the bye week. Among the regulars on the ice were forwards Corey Perry, Jakob Silfverberg and Patrick Eaves. According to Carlyle, the players on the ice yesterday “are all available to us.”
Carlyle added, “Fair number of new faces and some old, familiar faces we’ve had before. They’re now healthy to come back into the lineup. We’re looking forward to have some settled lines going forward.”
That’s big news for the Ducks, who have been dealing with injuries to key players all season. Perry hasn’t played yet this season after suffering a right knee injury in warmups during a preseason game against the Arizona Coyotes on Sept. 24. The 33-year-old right wing posted 49 points (17g/32a) in 71 games last season, his 13th NHL season with Anaheim. For what it’s worth, Perry skated with Rickard Rakell and longtime linemate Ryan Getzlaf in two practice sessions coming out of the break.
Silfverberg has missed the past four games after suffering a hamstring injury on Jan. 15 in Detroit. The 28-year-old right wing leads the team in goals (12) and has 19 points in 42 games this season. For the past two days, Silfverberg has skated on a line with Devin Shore and Adam Henrique.
Patrick Eaves was also on the ice for both practices, alternating rushes with Adam Cracknell on a line with left wing Brian Gibbons and center Carter Rowney. Eaves has been limited to five games this season, and hasn’t played with the Ducks since Nov. 9. However, he played in five games with the San Diego Gulls from Jan. 16-26 on a long-term injury conditioning loan.
Tomorrow’s matchup against the Winnipeg Jets is the opener of a five-game road trip that continues with stops in Toronto (Feb. 4), Montreal (Feb. 5), Ottawa (Feb. 7) and Philadelphia (Feb. 9).
The Ducks have been needing some grit and offense and having Perry, Eaves, and Silfverberg return off IR just might be a missing piece that can get them back in a playoff position. Opposing teams are not going to like this news because it means they have to deal with playing against one of the most hated players in the league today. If you’re a Ducks fan you love Corey Perry and what he brings to the game but if you are anything but a Ducks fan you hate him (especially Jonathan Quick- the goalie fight a season ago).
