The Ducks netminder John Gibson has proved that he belongs in the net, he shows each game he is in the net how athletic and technically sound he is.
He is young but is a very effective player in the way he saves the puck.
Fun fact about Gibson, he is one of the player that has the most penalty minutes in the NHL today.
John Gibson was one of the key factors that led the Ducks finishing 2nd place of the Pacific Division.
Season outlook according to the Anaheim Ducks:
Entering the summer, Gibson’s long-term status remained a heavily discussed topic. Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Murray answered those questions, signing the goaltender to an eight-year contract extension. Announced on his wedding day, Gibson celebrated two significant milestones on one perfect day.
“It was definitely exciting. It was a lot to take in,” Gibson said shortly after signing his contract. “We were talking a lot before. And with my agent in town for the wedding, it was something we were trying to get done. I was fortunate it was able to get done on the same day. We had a big celebration. [My wife and I] are very happy and excited to be in Anaheim for the next nine years.”
Despite appearing in 60 games last season, part of Gibson’s off-season plan focused on injury prevention.
“I want to make sure I get stronger this summer. Last year it seemed like it was one injury that was lingering on a bit. Never fully got better,” he said. “I definitely made sure I focused on that injury to take care of it this summer so I can come back with no restrictions or limitations. Get that under control, which I did. Definitely excited about the upcoming season. I wanted to get more conditioning shape and focus on the minor bumps and bruises I had during the season last year and try to prevent them. It’s definitely been a good summer as far as the off-ice part.”
His numbers also suggest steady improvement year over year. He looked like a more technical goaltender last season, making the routine saves look easy while maintain the ability to post those highlight-reel stops.
His chemistry with backup Ryan Miller will only lead to better performances. The duo seem to work off each other, providing a stable support system integral for success in net.
The Ducks goaltender will continue to chow off his athleticism and how much of a techniqually sound player he is and he will be the man in net for 8 more years as an Anaheim Duck.
Gibson’s goaltending continues to get better and better with every season so excited to watch him grow into one of the great players in Anaheim Ducks franchise history.
