Ducks Deliver a Comeback Win Against the Coyotes at their Emotional Opening Night in Anaheim

The Anaheim Ducks start their season of with a bang, an rough match up against the hungry Arizona Coyotes but ended up defeating them 5 to 4. The hungry Coyotes left hungry because the Anaheim Ducks didn’t mess around especially when they got the 2 quick and sneaky goals one after another and #RikRakAttack that denied them from having Duck for dinner with Rickard Rakell’s GAME WINNING GOAL. I don’t know this for sure but if you were a fan at the Honda Center you witnessed an emotional, intense and record breaking game against the Arizona Coyotes, would suck to be the fans that went home when the score was 4 to 1 in the second period.

Adam Brady wrote an amazing article. “Ducks Make Valiant Comeback to Down Coyotes on Emotional Opening Night”- can be found in the NHL app which you should download it if you haven’t already downloaded it.

Katie Hawley with Wild Wind. By the Anaheim Ducks

I feel that this was a real emotional game for Duck Rickard Rakell all because of the honorary 21st Duck. Katie Hawley, the honorary 21st Duck, and got to be out with the Ducks at practice on Wednesday and I think that she got to be so privileged to meet her favorite Duck, Rickard Rakell, and I feel that she is an inspiration to the Anaheim Ducks.

A little about Katie Hawley and her experience with the Anaheim Ducks, based off of what Adam Brady Wrote in his article, Ducks Make Valiant Comeback to Down Coyotes on Emotional Opening Night,  ” Among the Opening Night festivities at Honda Center was an emotional moment during pregame player introductions, in which this year’s “21st Duck” Katie Hawley was introduced on the ice with players after being led out by Rakell and Perry during an emotional moment in which there was hardly a dry eye in the house. The 17-year-old is a die-hard Ducks fan who has been fighting cancer since age nine, defeating it twice and enduring at least a dozen surgeries, two dozen chemotherapy sessions, 30 radiation treatments, 80 scans, and 40 blood transfusions. She was inspired to keep fighting by favorite player Rakell and met with him before attending a Ducks practice earlier this week. She could be seen on the Prime Time telecast yelling, “That was for me!” and pointing excitedly to herself after Rakell’s go-ahead goal. It was revealed later that Katie had told Perry and Rakell, “I need you to score,” while skating out to center ice with them.” and according to Rickard Rakell, “it’s kind of a Cinderella story and it couldn’t have ended in any better way.”

Now the Anaheim Ducks were victorious in the opening game, they came through even though a handful of key players were out on the injured list. The Ducks that are currently on the injured list are: Ryan Kesler, Patrick Eaves, Hampus Lindholm, Sami Vatanen, and Ryan Miller. Ryan Getzlaf was added to that list last minute due to a lower-body ailment. The Ducks proved that they got what it takes to win even when they are missing players, players who are known for their face-off and scoring abilities.

Corey Perry alone had a such a great game, records were made, goals were scored and the interesting thing that happened to Corey Perry was a fight with a goalie. 10/5/17 marks the day that Corey Perry reached scoring his 350th goal of his career. As a Ducks fan watching games I witnessed something I’ve never in my life have ever seen, Perry had a fight with the Domingue, the Coyotes goalie and a few penalties were called. “With just under eight minutes left in the second, Perry ran over Domingue, sparking a brawl behind the Arizona net. Perry was sent to the box, and Gibson was given a 10-minute misconduct for trying to start something with Domingue near the benches.”, according to Adam Brady. Corey got his revenge by scoring his second goal on Domingue. #ScoreyPerry is back and he is in it for the long haul (82 games plus the Stanley Cup Playoffs).

Ondrej Kase with the sneak attack goal with the assistance of a Swed pass from Jakob Silverberg. I watched that goal a few times to see how it went it in. Who knew that Kase was one sly Duck and/or sneaky as a fox since I didn’t see it go in the first time, like I said I had to watch it a few times to see that puck go in.

It is rare that there is a goal coming from Andrew Cogliano, because I can’t recall a game that I’ve seen him score. He got a pretty close to perfect pass from Corey Perry and before I knew it the puck went in the net then I hear the announcer say, “ANAHEIM DUCK GOOOAAAAALLLLL!, ANDREW COGLIANO ASSISTED BY COREY PERRY!!!!!”

Rickard Rakell showed off for the special 21st Duck, Katie Hawley, especially when he scored the game-winning goal for her.

Based on Anaheim Duck records, this game is marks the first time the Ducks overcame a 3-goal deficit to win in regulation since March 22, 2006 vs. Colorado, which was also a 5-4 victory.

Lamp is lit cause the Ducks Won

The Anaheim Ducks will be back at it tomorrow night at 7pm in Honda Center looking to go (2-0-0) with the game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
